Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orleans, was a national heroine and saint of France. She led the French in the Hundred Years' War against the English. Born around January 6, 1412 in Lorraine, she was burned at the stake in Rouen on May 30, 1431. She was later rehabilitated by the Church and venerated as a martyr.
