He was a Romanian Art Deco sculptor and ceramicist and was one of the most popular Art Deco artists of his time. Most of his works of art were created between 1914 and 1933. In 1909 he went to Italy to study with the sculptor Raffaello Romanelli. In 1912 he moved to Paris to study at the Ecole desBeaux Arts There he received lessons from Antonin Merci and Jean Boucher and perfected his chryselephantine technique, in which he combined bronze and ivory and decorated the bronze elements mostly by cold painting or enameling. Enamelling refers to a mass of inorganic composition, usually consisting of silicates and oxides, which is produced in a mostly glassy solidified form by melting or frit-ing, which means a melting process that is stopped shortly before completion. This mass is then applied to a carrier material or substrate in one or more layers, e.g. with additives, and melted at high temperatures and for a short time. The aim is usually to coat the carrier material. Enamel is used on metal or glass as a carrier material.

care instructions
Use a soft cloth or brush. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents as these can damage the patina. For a deeper cleaning, a mild soap solution can be used. To maintain the protective layer, it is recommended to occasionally treat the figure with a special wax for bronze. Do not store or place bronze figures in damp environments as this can encourage corrosion.
