We will be happy to make you an individual offer. Rembradt Bugatti was born on October 16, 1884 in Milan and died on January 8, 1916 in Paris. As a sculptor, he was one of the pioneers of the Art Deco style and his works include a large number of animal sculptures. He was the third child of the Milan-based furniture designer and brother of the automobile designer Ettore Bugatti. Rembrandt Bugatti met important artists at an early age in his parents' home, such as the Russian sculptor Pawel Trubetskoy, who recognized and promoted his talent from the beginning. From 1900, Rembrandt Bugatti studied at the Accedemia di Brera in the class of Pawel Trubetzkoy and quickly developed his own style, which was based on some features of impressionism. In 1902, he was considered the most talented sculptor at the Accedemia Brera. At that time, his animal sculptures were still made of plaster, as he did not yet have the money for the complex bronze casting process. Thanks to a contact from Trubetzkoy in Paris with an important gallery owner named Adrien-Aurelien Hébrard, who had his own foundry, he was able to hold his first regular exhibitions. He moved to Paris with his parents and older sister and was now able to produce his sculptures in bronze. He quickly established himself in the world of artists and was able to sell many of his works. In 1904, he created the rearing elephants that his brother used more than 20 years later as a radiator figure for the Bugatti Type 41 Royale, thus achieving legendary status. got. Rembrandt Bugatti settled in Antwerp at that time because it was known for its numerous art schools and was considered a stronghold of the fine arts. He paid particular attention to the zoo, which housed many wild animals brought back from overseas by poachers. The spring of 1910 was the high point of his career, during which he organized a large solo exhibition at the Royal Zoological Society. In the following years, shortly before the start of the First World War, the style of his works changed to more angular and geometric forms and his natural forms gradually disappeared. It is possible that he was influenced by the Cubism that was introduced at that time and his works also increasingly took on the Art Deco style. During the First World War, Rembrandt Bugatti worked as a volunteer for the Belgian Red Cross in the Antwerp Zoo, where he cared for the injured. The war brought him no further profits from his art, so that he became increasingly financially straitened and suffered from depression. He had broken off contact with his family since moving to Antwerp. He took his own life in January 1916 in a Paris apartment by poisoning himself with gas.
