About Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920)
Amedeo Clemente Modigliani was born on July 12, 1884 in Livorno, Italy, and died on January 24, 1920 in Paris. He was an important sculptor, painter and draftsman. His works, especially nude paintings, only gained greater recognition after his death, as they were considered scandalous at the time.
Modigliani studied in Italy and moved to Paris in 1906, where he came into contact with artists such as Pablo Picasso and Constantin Brancusi. His art, which focused on people, was strongly influenced by the Renaissance and African art and defies clear classification into contemporary art styles.
His work mainly includes portraits and nudes. From 1909 to 1914, Modigliani devoted himself intensively to sculpture, but created only a few sculptures that depicted people in archaic form. After health problems, he returned to painting and painted, among other things, the famous series of nude paintings.
Modigliani lived a passionate but tragic life in the artists' district of Montmartre in Paris. He died of tuberculosis at the age of just 35. His fiancée Jeanne Hébuterne committed suicide after his death.
Some of Modigliani's most important works:
- Nude (The Little Jeanne), 1908 – Oil on canvas
- Portrait of Jacques Lipchitz with his wife, 1916 – oil on canvas
- Reclining Nude with Arms Crossed Behind the Head, 1917 – Oil on Canvas
Modigliani is today considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century, whose works achieve record prices at auctions.

care instructions
Use a soft cloth or brush. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents as these can damage the patina. For a deeper cleaning, a mild soap solution can be used. To maintain the protective layer, it is recommended to occasionally treat the figure with a special wax for bronze. Do not store or place bronze figures in damp environments as this can encourage corrosion.
